DFA logs 39 new COVID-19 cases among Pinoys abroad

There are now 9,754 Filipinos abroad infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced 39 new infections on Sunday.

Total recoveries among overseas Filipinos also rose to 5,783 after 23 more recovered while the death toll remained at 708 with no new fatalities.

The Middle East/Africa region has the highest number of Filipinos with COVID-19 at 6,849 with 4,108 recoveries and 430 deaths.

In Europe, 1,143 Filipinos have contracted COVID-19, 547 of whom have recovered while 95 have died.

A total of 784 Filipino COVID-19 cases have been tallied in the Americas, including 447 recoveries and 175 deaths.

The Asia Pacific region has the fewest overseas Filipinos with COVID-19 at 978 with 681 recoveries and eight deaths.

Meanwhile, the DFA vowed to continue repatriation efforts for overseas Filipinos who wish to return home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“As of last night’s report, the DFA has repatriated over 124,700 land-based and sea-based overseas Filipinos,” it said. — DVM, GMA News
