Filipino crewman dies in Indian Ocean oil tanker fire

A Sri Lanka Navy spokesperson announced that one of the 18 Filipino crewmen aboard a supertanker that caught fire in the Indian Ocean had died, GMA 7 news program 24 Oras reported on Friday.

Meanwhile, another Filipino crewman was injured in the blaze.

The New Diamond Tanker, which was carrying 2 million barrels of oil, caught fire while sailing across the Indian Ocean from Kuwait.

While the blaze was believed to have started in the tanker's engine room, the cause of the fire was still unknown.
