Bahrain lifts suspension on domestic workers —DOLE

The Kingdom of Bahrain has lifted its temporary suspension on household service workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Tuesday.

According to Sam Nielsen’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Bahrain said that employers in Bahrain are already in need of Filipino workers.

The POLO said that the Labor Market Regulatory Authority of Bahrain has warned employers to avoid transacting with unlicensed expatriate employees and employment offices in hiring workers.

It added that this was to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as well as to protect the employees.

Based on data from the POLO, the number of domestic workers in Bahrain decreased to 9 percent from January 2019 to June 2020. From 18,663 in 2019, it decreased to 16,576 in 2020.
