94 Filipinos repatriated from Laos, Myanmar — DFA


A total of 94 stranded Filipinos in Laos and Myanmar have been repatriated amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

In a statement, the DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, Laos repatriated 46 Filipinos and three foreign nationals to Manila on Monday.

Among those who were repatriated were stranded due to lack of flights or have lost their jobs due to the adverse effects of the pandemic on the economy, the DFA said.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar helped 48 Filipinos return home to Manila.

The DFA said this is the eleventh repatriation flight since the start of the health crisis.

As of Tuesday, the DFA said the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad reached 11,542 including 7,467 recoveries and 832 fatalities.

The Middle East/Africa remained to be the region with the most number of cases at 7,530 with 4,652 recoveries and 547 deaths. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/RSJ, GMA News
