DFA: 42 more Filipinos overseas infected with COVID-19

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday logged 42 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total tally to 13,540.

The DFA also said total recoveries rose to 8,617 after 32 more Filipinos recovered from the illness, while the death toll remained at 935.

To date, the Middle East/Africa remained to be the region with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad at 7,836 with 602 deaths and 4,691 recoveries.

The Asia Pacific Region followed with 2,724 infections, including 21 fatalities and 1,905 recoveries.

In Europe, a total of 2,170 Filipinos were infected with the virus. Of the number, 118 have died, while 1,479 have recovered.

The Americas, meanwhile, has recorded 806 cases with 194 fatalities and 533 recoveries.

“The DFA personnel in our Foreign Service Posts remain steadfast in partnering with local health authorities and agencies to ensure Filipinos' awareness of and adherence to preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, and commit to tirelessly attending to the needs of our people, whenever possible,” the department said. — RSJ, GMA News
