Sister of slain OFW in UAE regrets not being able to protect her

Mary Anne Daynolo, a hotel receptionist, was supposed to meet her sister, Mari Franz Madrilejos, after their duty to visit a theme park on March 4 last year in Abu Dhabi.

The sisters never saw each other again.  Daynolo, the youngest of five children, went missing that day and was found dead 10 months later, according to Tina Panganiban Perez’ “24 Oras” report.

Her family in UAE reported her as missing to police.

Several months passed but she could not be found.

On January 19, her family’s worst fears were finally confirmed.

“Doon na sinabi no’ng mga kapulisan na she’s been found. Unfortunately, ‘yung body, ‘yung found, ‘yung remains,” Madrilejos said.

"Puro tanong lang na, ‘Bakit?’ Napakabait ng kapatid namin. Wala 'yung ibang pinangarap, wala 'yung ibang ginusto kundi maayos 'yung pamilya namin,” she added.

Lalaban kami."

Authorities will conduct an autopsy and DNA test on the remains of Daynolo.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said an Ugandan suspect admitted to her killing.

Bello said.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, meanwhile, vowed continued assistance for Daynolo’s family.—Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
