DFA reports 226 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad


The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday reported 226 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among Filipinos overseas, bringing the total tally to 20,661.

Latest data from the DFA showed that total recoveries also increased to 12,221 after 120 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll rose to 1,227 with seven new fatalities.

So far, there are 7,213 patients undergoing treatment.

The Middle East/Africa remained to be the region with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad at 11,741 with 820 deaths and 6,398 recoveries.

The Asia Pacific Region followed with 4,402 infections including 33 fatalities and 2,724 recoveries.

In Europe, a total of 3,532 Filipinos were infected with the virus, of which 130 have died, while 2,472 have recovered.

The Americas, meanwhile, has recorded 986 cases with 244 fatalities and 627 recoveries. -MDM, GMA News
