2 OFWs nabbed for faking documents

Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were arrested for using fake travel documents to leave the country.

According to a report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday, the OFWs were bound for the United Arab Emirates when operatives of the Bureau of Immigration and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) caught them.

One of the OFWs faked her overseas employment certificate and RT-PCR test result.

"Umamin naman na hindi siya dumaan sa swab test. Iniimbestigahan namin kasi gusto naming mahuli kung sino 'yong nagbigay ng pekeng dokumento sa kaniya," NBI International Airport Investigation Division chief Ruel Dugayon said.

The other OFW, meanwhile, used a passport with her older sibling's name on it because she was underage.

"Ang ginamit niyang birth certificate [to secure the passport] ay birth certificate ng kapatid niya para ma-qualify siya kasi ang edad ng pasaherong papuntang Saudi Arabia ay 23 years old. Underage pa siya," Dugayon said.

The OFWs will face charges for illegal use of falsified documents and for violation of the Philippine Passport Act. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/MDM, GMA News
