645,000 OFWs availed of TESDA programs amid COVID-19 pandemic –exec

Around 645,000 returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) availed of Technical Education And Skills Development Authority programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, a TESDA executive said Saturday.

"Alam naman natin na mahigit isang milyon ang umuwi. Pero natutuwa tayong ibalita sa ating mga kababayan out of one million, 645,000 halos ang naka-avail ng programa ng TESDA," said TESDA Deputy Director General undersecretary Aniceto Bertiz III at the Laging Handa briefing.

(More than a million have returned home. But we are happy to inform our countrymen that out of one million, almost 645,000 have availed of TESDA programs.)

Bertiz said one of TESDA's programs was partnering with other government agencies and private companies to provide a "holistic approach" of knowledge and skills training for Filipinos seeking jobs.

OFWs could access 108 courses through the TESDA online program, said Bertiz.

TESDA also has diploma courses for electrical and mechanical engineering, enterprise-based training, and programs for IT BPOs.

Bertiz said TESDA scholars could now receive their training support funds or allowance via GCash. — DVM, GMA News
