Philippine Embassy in New Zealand extends condolences to car crash victims

The Philippine Embassy in Wellington has extended prayers and condolences to the family and friends of the Filipino victims in the fatal car crash in New Zealand on June 19.

“The Embassy was shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy befalling our Kababayan. On behalf of the Philippine Government, the Embassy offers its prayers and condolences to the family and friends of the victims,” the Embassy said in a statement.

A report on Stuff said seven people from a family in Auckland were killed

and two were seriously injured after their van collided with a refrigerated goods truck along State Highway 1 between Blenheim and Picton.

While investigations are ongoing, Tasman District commander Paul Borrell said there were early indications that the van likely crossed the centerline before it collided with the truck.

According to the report, the road crash is the deadliest in the South Island in more than two decades, and one of the worst in New Zealand overall.
