BORN TO BE WILD : Indonesia “Komodo Kingdom” and “Sumatra’s Last Man-Eater” Part 3 this Wednesday, January 23

Komodo Kingdom

Doc Nielsen Donato gets to know more about the biggest lizard in the world as he spends more days in Komodo Kingdom. The Komodo Dragon is feared because of its massive size and predator instincts. But the Komodo itself once struggled to survive. In the 1980s the Komodo Dragon was in the list of critically endangered species, and although it is still classified as “vulnerable” today, its numbers have recovered. During his search, Doc Nielsen spots a juvenile Komodo Dragon in the wild. But unlike the dragons in the tourist area, this juvenile is more aloof and distant when humans are around. Doc Nielsen and the team then receive a tip from one of the rangers – an event which many international documentary teams have sought to film has been chanced upon. Sumatra’s last man-eater Doc Ferds Recio visits a rescue center in Sumatra where he meets tigers that were victims of human cruelty. Some of these tigers were rescued in the wild while they were trapped in snares. Some were lucky to live with a missing paw while others did not survive. Although they are called “man eaters” for their ferocity and capacity to attack humans, tigers themselves are often killed by people for their fur. And with their numbers still dwindling in the wild, Doc Ferds and a team of experts are curious to know whether cubs are still born in Sumatra’s forests. The team goes back to the area where camera traps were set-up in hopes of capturing videos of wild tigers. Don’t miss the second part of Born to be Wild Indonesia this Wednesday after Saksi.
