DOH reports more than 11,000 new HIV-AIDS cases in 2018

More than 11,400 new cases of HIV-AIDS were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) in 2018, according to a report on Saksi.

The figure is higher compared to the number of cases in 2017 wherein there were 11,100 cases on record.

As to the transmission of the disease, 98 percent of the cases were through sexual intercourse while 88 percent were men who had sex with men.

The people are encouraged to be tested for HIV-AIDS, the DOH said in an advisory.

For individuals who test positive for the virus, the purchase of anti-retroviral drugs is shouldered by the government. — BAP, GMA News
