Biñan City recycles volcanic ash to make new bricks

The Biñan City government is using volcanic ash from the recent Taal Volcano eruption to create new bricks, according to City Mayor Arman Dimaguila on Tuesday afternoon.

Dimaguila posted a Facebook video of the freshly-minted bricks being churned out by a machine in Biñan, Laguna. He also shared photos of the new bricks.

"Ashfall to bricks!! Kaya kailangan nating isako ang mga ito at hindi makabara sa ating mga canal," he wrote in the caption.

For Australia-based structural engineer Ginghis Maranan, it is important to first know about the chemical composition of the volcanic ash, and how it would react with other materials to form binders and pastes. — BAP, GMA News
