Supermoon to rise on Wednesday, says PAGASA

A supermoon will grace the Philippine night sky on Wednesday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the supermoon will reach its peak at 2:09 am on April 8.

A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its perigee, or its closest point to the Earth. It can be 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than a full moon in its apogee, or its farthest point to the Earth, according to NASA.

"However a 30% difference in brightness can easily be masked by clouds or the competing glare of urban lights," PAGASA said.

This is the second supermoon of 2020. The first one occurred on March 10.
