Meteor shower across less polluted skies seen to peak Wednesday night

The Eta Aquarids meteor shower, which is active from April 19 to May 28, is expected to be at its peak on May 6, Wednesday night up to the early dawn of Thursday, May 7.

According to a report by GMA’s resident meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz, the meteor shower will be more visible due to the less polluted skies in Metro Manila amid the enhanced community quarantine.

There will also be a maximum of 20 meteors per hour.

The Eta Aquarids occur when the Earth crosses paths with Halley’s comet.

In late April, the Lyrid meteor shower also started and reached its peak viewing on April 22 until the dawn of April 23. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/NB, GMA News
