PhilSA partners with UN to develop space tech capacity

The Philippine Space Agency will work with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) to improve its capacity in using space technology, PhilSA director-general Dr. Joel Marciano said on Friday.

At the Laging Handa briefing, Marciano said PhilSA and UNOOSA sould sign a memorandum of understanding on the cooperative effort on Friday.

“Isang target ng kooperasyon sa ilalim ng MOU ay yung karagdagang pagbuo ng kakayahan patungo sa mabisa at malawak na paggamit ng impormasyon na nakabatay sa space, yung mga imahe sa satellite,” he said.

(One of the targets of this cooperation under the MOU is to further develop a capacity toward an effective and comprehensive utilization of data based on space satellite images.)

He added that this set of data from space technology can be also used in disaster management, improvement of agencies, productivity in agriculture, environmental protection, among others.

PhilSA has been participating in the 60th Session of the Legal Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) from May 31 to June 11. — DVM, GMA News
