Magnitude 4.9 earthquake strikes off Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit the waters off Surigao del Sur on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The earthquake struck at 7:08 a.m. at 08.49°N, 127.25°E - 102 km N 82° E of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The quake had a depth of 16 km and was tectonic in origin.

Intensity III was felt in Lingig, Surigao del Sur.

PHIVOLCS said no damage is expected but aftershocks may occur.

The earthquake was previously reported to have a magnitude of 5.3 but PHIVOLCS updated the information and revised the magnitude to 4.9. —KG, GMA  News
