Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine recipients retain more antibodies vs. Omicron —study

A study by Russian and Italian scientists showed that those who received a shot of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine retained more antibodies against the Omicron coronavirus variant as compared to those who received a dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

In a study among 51 people who received the Sputnik V shot and 17 who got Pfizer shot, the scientists discovered that 74.2% of the Sputnik recipients still had antibodies vs. Omicron two to six months after their last dose, according to a report on Unang Balita on Monday.

Meanwhile, only 56.9% of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine recipients on the other hand showed antibodies vs. Omicron in that time frame.

Gamaleya Institute, the developer of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, is pushing for the use of Sputnik V Lite as booster regardless of what brand was used for the primary dose, to provide protection against the Delta and Omicron coronavirus variants. —KG, GMA News
