PHIVOLCS detects 21 volcanic quakes in Bulusan Volcano

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Wednesday detected 21 volcanic earthquakes in Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon for the past 24 hours.

Based on the agency’s latest bulletin, the volcano had “moderate emission” of plumes going up to 100 meters drifted southwest and south.

Bulusan Volcano also emitted 556 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on July 2, according to PHIVOLCS.

The agency said that the volcano is still “edifice inflated.”

Meanwhile, Alert Level 1 or low-level unrest remains in effect in Bulusan.

PHILVOCS warned that entry into the four kilometer radius permanent danger zone and entry without vigilance into the extended danger zone is still not allowed.

It added that flying any aircraft close to the volcano is strictly discouraged as possible sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur. — Richa Noriega/RSJ, GMA News
