Magnitude 5.7 quake hits Davao Oriental

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Oriental on Monday afternoon at 4:14 p.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

According to PHIVOLCS, the epicenter of the quake was located 163 kilometers south of Tarragona, Davao Oriental. It is tectonic in nature and has a depth of 52 KM.

Reported Intensity II was felt in Davao City.

Meanwhile, instrumental intensity III was monitored in Santo Niño, South Cotabato; Intensity II in Malungon, Sarangani; and

Intensity I in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Alabel, Sarangani; Koronadal City and General Santos City, South Cotabato; Davao City.

Aftershocks are expected but PHIVOLCs said damage is unlikely. — Sundy Locus/RSJ, GMA News
