Magnitude 5.3 quake jolts Davao City


A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook Davao City on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at 10:06 a.m.

The quake also had a depth of 254 kilometers.

PHIVOLCS said that Intensity III was felt in Malungon, Sarangani, while Intensity II was logged in Don Marcelino and Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.

Meanwhile, based on instrumental intensities, Intensity II was felt in Don Marcelino and Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; and Santo Nino, South Cotabato.

Alabel, Malapatan, Sarangani; Tupi, General Santos City, South Cotabato; and Kidapawan City, Cotabato recorded Intensity I.

PHIVOLCS said there were no damages expected due to the 5.3 earthquake, but aftershocks may occur.—Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA News
