DepEd partners with OceanX for marine science learning opportunities

The Department of Education (DepEd) has partnered with US-based OceanX Education, Inc. to develop immersive education programs through ocean exploration for Filipino learners.

In a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), the DepEd and OceanX seek to explore opportunities focused on science expeditions, which will utilize the OceanXplorer research vessel and related film and media projects.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara boarded the OceanXplorer, which is considered as the world’s most advanced research and media vessel, for a tour at the Manila South Port last year, according to the DepEd on Monday.

Aside from that, the agreemrent states that the OceanX will conduct in-port activations that will offer learners hands-on learning experience and valuable insights into the work of marine scientists when it comes to ocean conservation and research.

The OceanX will also offer Filipino youth with unique learning opportunities through its Young Explorers Program and the Early Careers Explorers Program.

In its website, OceanX describes itself as a “a non-profit initiative offering young people insights into the importance of ocean conservation, research, and storytelling through hands-on experience and behind-the-scenes opportunities.”

The DepEd said these initiatives provide immersive, multi-day experiences featuring expert-led sessions in the marine science industry. —Anna Felicia Bajo/RF, GMA Integrated News
