So you think the electronic cigarette - a supposedly non-toxic way to continue the puffing habit - is safe for your health? Think again. A Florida man learned this the hard way after an e-cigarette exploded while he was smoking it, tech site CNET reported. While he saved his lungs by not smoking actual cigarettes, the man lost his front teeth and sustained burns in his tongue, CNET cited an Associated Press report as saying. "Still, this seems to be the first recorded incident of an e-cigarette exploding. But not the first gadget that has burned faces in apparently normal use. Cell phones, for example, have been the subject of several explosions, each time the suggestion being that the batteries were at fault," the CNET report said. The CNET report quoted fire officials as saying the battery may have been the culprit. It also quoted Joseph Parker, division chief for the North Bay Fire Department, as saying the incident was like "trying to hold a bottle rocket in your mouth when it went off." "The battery flew out of the tube and set the closet on fire," he added. e-Cigarettes CNET noted designers of e-cigarettes themselves admitted smoking the gadget won't help kick smoking, but may make the practice a little healthier. It also noted the World Health Organization does not appear impressed with such a claim. — LBG, GMA News
