For a time, fans of the "Twilight" saga who regularly visit the official website of the series' writer Stephenie Meyer may be in for a real-life horror story.
Meyer's website (www.stepheniemeyer.com) had been found to host "Crimepack," an exploit kit that installs malware on Windows PCs, security firm GFI labs reported.
"Computers successfully exploited by the Crimepack exploit kit are eventually turned into zombies, which online criminals use to do malicious tasks, such as spamming and launching denial of service (DoS) attacks," GFI said in a blog post.
It added the malware lets buyers of the kit "test" various Web reputation services to discover whether any include their exploit sites.
But while GFI said www.stepheniemeyer.com is now supposedly free from malicious codes, a check of the site as of Thursday night (Manila time) would trigger an antivirus alert for a "JS:Redirector-OZ" Trojan.
Avast's antivirus product indicated the infection may have been in the site's Bio page. — TJD, GMA News
