The Federal Bureau of Investigation released Saturday, Manila time, its free Child ID application for Android devices.

In a blog post, the FBI said the application or app, like its iPhone counterpart released last August, lets parents store photos and data in case their children go missing.

"Using the app, you can show pictures of your kids and provide physical identifiers such as height and weight to security or police officers on the spot. You can also quickly and easily e-mail the information to authorities with a few clicks," it said.

It added the app also includes tips on keeping children safe as well as specific guidance on what to do in those first few crucial hours after a child goes missing.

According to the FBI, the app addresses situations ranging from a toddler wandering away at the mall to a teen being snatched by a stranger.

To date, the FBI said the iPhone version of the Child ID app has been downloaded more than 121,000 times.

It said the Android app can be downloaded at Google Play or on iTunes .— DVM, GMA News
