On the day the Philippines marked its 114th Independence Day, it also shone in the tech world after a Philippine-developed mobile app was showcased Tuesday at a major developers' conference of tech giant Apple Inc.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's traffic app was displayed at Apple's app table at its ongoing Worldwide Developer's Conference in San Francisco, California.
"Score one for the Philippines: MMDA for iOS displayed at Apple's app table here at WWDC12!" MMDA traffic discipline unit head Yves Gonzalez, who is attending the WWDC, said on his Twitter account early Tuesday (Manila time).

Gonzalez had developed the MMDA app for iOS, Apple's platform for mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
The MMDA app, which guides motorists on which roads have heavy traffic, also has versions for devices running Google's Android and RIM's BlackBerry.
A photo uploaded by Gonzalez on his Twitter account showed the MMDA app had an average rating of four out of five stars (http://instagr.am/p/LwOXpBLt5K/).
"That awesome feeling when your app is in the Top 20,000 globally and gets displayed at WWDC. :)," he tweeted.
Gonzalez said the MMDA app's being in the top 20,000 apps means it is in the top three percent of all available apps for iOS.
"At 600k available apps, this is around Top 3%," he explained.
He also said it was a dream come true for him, noting he had been looking at the app wall at last year's WWDC.
At the time, he said he wanted to have an app featured on that wall.
"One year ago I was looking at the app wall at WWDC11, I told myself 'Next year dapat may app na ko dyan (Next year I should have an app featured there).' One year later..." he said.
A report on tech site Slashgear said the other highlights of WWDC 2012 included:
- iOS 6 with deep Facebook integration
- Apple Maps
- Siri going to iPad
- refresh of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lineups
- new MacBook Pro with Retina display
- OS X Mountain Lion software and apps
