A Facebook engineer courted disaster by accidentally blocking popular image-sharing site Imgur late Monday, giving users who posted Imgur links an error message.

But the engineer also saved the day for Facebook by taking to community site Reddit to own up to the fault and apologize, tech site CNET reported Tuesday.

"This is actually my fault," it quoted the engineer as saying.

He followed his apology by uploading a picture of his 'patriotic dog' to Imgur, CNET added.

The problem appeared to stem from a bug in the system Facebook uses to catch malicious and "spammy" links.

As a result, Imgur users briefly got an error message from Facebook.

CNET said Imgur had nearly 30 billion page views on more than 17.3 million uploaded images in the last 30 days.

Shortly after an image of the Facebook error message was posted on Reddit, more than 800 users posted comments. — TJD, GMA News
