Google on Thursday greeted itself a happy 14th birthday the only way it knew how: with a doodle.

Visitors to Google's website Thursday came upon a doodle of an animated chocolate cake with candles, which was eaten up and replaced with the word "Google."

Fourteen candles arranged like tally marks would then be seen under the doodle.

As in the past, clicking on the doodle will take the visitor to a Search Results page for "Google."

But an article on IBN Live noted September 27 appeared to be a selection based on "convenience" than the actual date when the company was founded.

"Google celebrated September 7 (the day when the company was incorporated) as its birthday till 2005. In 2005 Google changed the date to September 27 to make it coincide with the announcement of the record number of pages that the search engine was indexing," it said.

It said Stanford university students Larry Page and Sergey Brin, got together to form Google in 1998.

Also, IBN Live said Google doodled for itself last year a photograph that showed Google's 13th birthday celebrations.

At the time, it had a cake on a table with 13 candles on it, and Google logo sat around the table in party hats while gifts and balloons added to the celebratory mood. — ELR, GMA News
