Blizzard recently announced Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, a collectible card game for the PC, Mac, and iPad.

In the game, the player selects one of the nine playable classes from World of Warcraft lore, collects cards, and engages others in turn-based combat, according to gaming website Kotaku.com.

Rob Pardo, Blizzard’s chief creative officer, revealed the game during a PAX East panel. Developed by a tiny team of 15 people, their goal was to produce a simple yet competitive game that was, in Pardo’s own words, "small in scope, but epic in gameplay."

The game has been described as reminiscent of Magic: The Gathering in appearance, but with the signature Warcraft twist.

So everything you love from World of Warcraft —such as the savage Orcs, the ubiquitous Night Elves, monster-summoning, and pulse-pounding combat— is accounted for. The characters and creatures also speak as they battle, and because this is Blizzard we’re talking about, expect no less than Blizzard-style hilarity. Zug Zug!

When asked when the game will be released, Blizzard had this to say: “Not Blizzard soon, but IRL soon.”

Interested parties can sign up for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft on the official website. The public beta will be available later this year. — TJD, GMA News
