Sonic the Hedgehog treadmill game gets you up and running

This time, "Sonic the Hedgehog" fans will experience firsthand how it is to run, run, run —and jump.

 

Dubbed "Sonic Athletics," the game debuted at the Sega mini-amusement park Joypolis in Tokyo, according to a report on Siliconera.com.

 

"'Sonic Athletics' puts eight players on treadmills to run in three events – 100-meter dash, long jump, and a 110 meter hurdles. There’s a button on the machine you can press to make Sonic or whoever you play as jump," Siliconera.com said.

 

This could be "Exergaming at its finest," it added.

 

A separate article on Arcade Heroes said "Sonic Athletics" places eight characters from the Sonic universe on a track-and-field game.

 

It said the eight characters include Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Shadow, and Metal Sonic, Silver and Blaze.

 

But Arcade Heroes said it remains to be seen if a similar setup would be made in the west.

 

"(I)f the game is decent then perhaps we will still see a Western release allowing operators to buy it as a single unit that can be linked," it added. — TJD, GMA News
