re Google and Korean electronics firm LG working on a new Nexus smartphone? If a report on “Korea Times” is accurate, such a collaboration will be a follow-up to the Nexus 4 that the two parties have already worked on.
“[Google founder] Larry Page invited [LG Electronics CEO Koo Bon-joon] for a meeting while he stayed in Seoul last week. They discussed ways to improve their business partnership. The meeting lasted for more than an hour,” the “Korea Times” reported.
It said its sources claimed the two "exchanged views about the latest mega trend in the global information technology industry."
They also discussed how to form an alliance in futuristic projects as part of “the big picture,” the sources said.
Also, the two discussed issues regarding the launch of an LG-Google OLED TV - Google and LG are working to produce Google-enabled sets.
Earlier this week, LG unveiled the world’s first curved OLED TV. But the report said LG Electronics CEO Koo Bon-joon kept a low profile in his meeting with Page.
LG is a relative latecomer to the smartphone game, unlike Samsung which is now considered one of the major contenders in the market.
“The Korea Times” report also said LG is now "seeking to expand its partnership in TVs and future businesses, such as Google Glass."
Recently, LG patented a new method for utilizing head-mounted displays, supposedly to add features to its Web-connected TVs.
“Korea Times” also noted LG became the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer behind Samsung and Apple in the first quarter of 2013, and may need a boost from Google to keep its momentum.
“LG needs help from Google to continue its business momentum in smartphones and TVs. That’s why Koo met Page,” said the sources. – KDM, GMA News
