After announcing to the world that Hollywood actor and 24 TV series star Kiefer Sutherland would be the new voice actor behind Snake, Hideo Kojima and Konami stunned video game players and attendees at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) by revealing that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was coming to Microsoft's new Xbox One console.
Aside from being released for Sony Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows, this will be the first MGS title in the series to be released for the so-called Eighth Generation of video game consoles. It is touted to utilize breathtaking new visuals and stunning gameplay courtesy of Kojima Productions' new proprietary game engine, the Fox Engine.
According to Geek Tyrant, in addition to the Xbox One announcement, Kojima Productions also showcased a brand new story and gameplay trailer for MGSV, showing events that occur after Naked Snake/ Big Boss’ escape and recovery from a hospital after sleeping through a coma for nine years.
Pairing together with his archrival and somewhat nemesis Ocelot, Snake heads on a mission in Afghanistan to rescue his longtime friend and comrade Kazuhira “Kaz” Miller, who’s being held captive by unknown forces. Forced to rediscover his abilities and rebuild his lost army “Outer Heaven”, the legendary soldier who earned the title “Big Boss” will fight new foes and meet new allies, as his quest for vengeance and redemption begins anew.
Much like the Ground Zeroes trailer that came a year ago, MGS V: The Phantom Pain is hailed to be the first “Open World” Metal Gear Solid game, a claim further boosted by the new catchphrase “Tactical Espionage Redefined” in the new teaser.
Much like Rockstar Games’ own “Grand Theft Auto” series and “Red Dead Redemption” title, players can survey and interact with the environment as Snake in any way they choose. The game also runs in real-time weather, so day shifts to night and vice versa as the hours pass on the clock. In addition to realistic movements and stealth gameplay, CQC (Close Quarters Combat) has been improved to impressive feats, allowing Snake to take down enemies at a fast and impressive rate.
Be sure to watch out for more Metal Gear Solid V news in the future. No release date has been mentioned yet, but for now, enjoy this little E3 2013 trailer. — TJD, GMA News
