Office 365, the latest version of Microsoft's productivity suite, may also be the fastest-selling, garnering one million subscriptions 100 days after it was launched.
Microsoft said this means Office 365 Home Premium (Office 2013) had been downloaded once every second, on average, since its debut, tech site Mashable reported.
"Users can download it and install it on up to five computers and gain access to features including 20GB of SkyDrive storage, 60 minutes of Skype service and app updates. The option to download a standalone copy for just one machine (and no subscription) still exists, although Microsoft didn't release any numbers about that," it said.
Microsoft had made the latest Office product available via subscription.
Faster than Facebook
Mashable quoted Microsoft as saying the feat puts Office 365 "on pace with some of the most popular services around."
A Microsoft infographic indicated Office reached the one-million mark faster than social networking giant Facebook, doing so in 3.5 months. Facebook, launched in 2004, took 10 months.
Only Instagram, recently acquired by Facebook, was faster in reaching one million, needing only 2.5 months.
Mashable noted a comparison of the services and how long they needed to reach one million subscribers showed:
Hulu Plus: 5 months
Spotify: 5 months
Dropbox: 7 months
Foursquare: 13 months
