Microsoft and Adobe on Wednesday rolled out patches to plug potentially harmful security holes in their respective software.

Security vendor Sophos noted Microsoft issued MS13-047, which seeks to address at least 18 flaws in its Internet Explorer browser, versions 6 through 10.

"Nearly every one of those vulnerabilities has a tag 'Exploit code likely' next to it. You know what that means... Apply the fixes now. Without a doubt this is the most important update from Microsoft this month," Sophos said in a blog post.

Of the patches from Microsoft this week, it said MS13-048, MS13-049 and MS130-050 are rated "important" and affect the Windows operating system and "could result in information disclosure or denial of service."

A fourth patch, MS13-051 addresses a flaw in Office 2003 for Windows and Office 2011 for Mac, which could allow a remote attack if the user opens a booby-trapped document.

"This flaw has been used in targeted attacks according to Microsoft, so even though it is only marked important you should apply it right away if you run the affected versions," Sophos said.

For its part, Adobe released a fix for Adobe Flash Player to prevent possible remote code execution. Flash users can get the latest release at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer, it said. — TJD, GMA News
