Got a camera? Google now lets everyone contribute to Street View maps

Got a camera? Now you can now create your own Google Street View maps, courtesy of Google.

Such a new feature will allow users to recreate the experience of walking through the park, or businesses to create a virtual tour to attract customers, Google said.

"Using a new feature in our Views community, you can easily connect your photo spheres to create 360º virtual tours of the places you love, then share them with the world on Google Maps," Google Maps and Photo Sphere product manager Evan Rapoport said in a blog post.

"Whether you’re photographing exotic islands or your favorite neighborhood hangout, mountain peaks or city streets, historic castles or your own business, we’re thrilled to see the places you love coming to life on Google Maps," Rapoport added.

Rapoport said creating a Street View from one's photo spheres should be as easy as connecting the dots into what looks like a “constellation” of stars.

One can even connect his or her photo spheres to Google's own Street View panoramas, Rapoport added.

Users can create photo spheres using an Android phone or a DSLR camera, then share them on Views.

They can then select the photo spheres from their profile and use Google's new tool to connect them together.

"Once your photo spheres are connected and published, people can navigate between them on Google Maps, just like they can in Street View," Rapoport said.

Rapoport also said one can embed Google's interactive viewer on his or her website or build applications with it using the Google Maps API. — TJD, GMA News
