Hackers deface Microsoft site

Microsoft came under attack from hackers anew this week, with the attackers defacing the blog site for its Office software suite.

The Syrian Electronic Army boasted about its latest attack on Microsoft in a post on its Twitter account early Tuesday, Manila time.

A report on tech site The Verge said the attack appeared to be a fulfillment of the hacker group's promise of further attacks on Microsoft.

It added the latest attack came hours after Microsoft redesigned its Office blog.

The defaced pages bore the title "hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army," but were quickly removed, it said.

The Verge said the Syrian Electronic Army also taunted Microsoft that "changing the CMS will not help you if your employees are hacked and they don't know about that."

Just a few days before, Microsoft said the Syrian Electronic Army managed to access a "small number" of employee email accounts.

On the other hand, the Syrian Electronic Army also attacked Microsoft's official Xbox support Twitter account, and accessed the official Skype blog and Twitter account.

"The series of attacks are an embarrassing and painful reminder of how accounts can be compromised due to simple email phishing," it said. — TJD, GMA News
