Live action 'Attack on Titan' coming soon as a two-part movie

The popular manga series "Attack on Titan" is about to hit the big screen next year, via a two-part live action movie.

Director Shinji Higuchi said filming on the two-part project is now ongoing in Japan, including on Hashima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture, Anime News Network reported.

Quoting Higuchi, ANN said the film's plot will center on the characters of the manga, with new characters and new "formidable" enemies.

Hajime Isayama, the creator of the manga, will supervise the project.

Other members of the dream team behind the movie include Yuusuke Watanabe who will write the script; and film critic and Isayama pal Tomohiro Machiyama, who is working on the scripts.

The manga is about the battles between humans and the giants who rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves.

Watanabe is known for his work in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, live-action Gantz, Gantz II: Perfect Answer, 20th Century Boys, and Gatchaman.

The films will star actor Haruma Miura, 23, along with Hiroki Hasegawa, Kiko Mizuhara, Kanata Hongou, Takahiro Miura, Nanami Sakuraba, Satoru Matsuo, Satomi Ishihara, Taki Pierre, Jun Kunimura, Sh? Watanabe, Ayame Misaki, and Rina Takeda.

Fans of the show have been eagerly hoping for a live-action, big-screen treatment especially following the release in Japan of this popular Subaru television spot:

A separate article on GeekTyrant.com said "Attack on Titan" is set in a world where humanity's remnants live inside connected cities, isolated by giant walls.

The walls keep out Titans, giant humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason.
