Tech site Engadget reported NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu claim that thee iris recognition technology may be used to unlock the device and to certify mobile payments.

Mashable added this means users can shop "just by looking directly into the front-facing camera."

"Like a fingerprint, everyone's irises are unique, making the very secure for a mobile-payments system," it said.

It added this is much more secure the face unlock feature on earlier Samsung Galaxy devices.

While it said the Arrows phone may not likely hit markets outside Japan, the technology could be adopted by other manufacturers if it clicks.

The phone runs on Google's Android 5.0 (Lollipop), with a 5.2-inch QHD screen, 3GB RAM and 32GB built-in storage. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
