Explosive ‘Heroes of the Storm’ Summer Global Championship winners revealed
The “Heroes of the Storm” Summer Global Championship at Dreamhack, Sweden, has ended, and with its conclusion comes the inauguration of a champion.
After five days of battle, the June 20 Semifinal and Final rounds gathered the tournament’s top 4 teams:
MVP Black (South Korea 2nd place)
eStar Gaming (China 1st place)
Tempest (South Korea 1st place)
mYinsanity (Europe 2nd place)
The Semifinal round was a best-of-five single elimination playoff. MVP Black faced mYinsanity in Semifinal 1, while Tempest battled eStar Gaming in Semifinal 2.

SEMIFINAL 1: MVP Black vs. mYinsanity
After taking down 3 of mYinsanity’s forts within 4 minutes, MVP Black was leading. 6 minutes in, mYinsanity used their Lt. Morales’ Medivac Dropship to sneak the entire team into MVP Black’s base. MVP Black slaughtered them all. Later, mYinsanity reattempted the same strategy, but MVP Black had already arrived at mYinsanity’s core. The race to destroy each other’s core was ultimately won by MVP Black 9 minutes into Game 1. Final stats: MVP Black Lv14, 8 kills vs. mYinsanity Lv11, 0 kills
mYinsanity played aggressively, summoning the Punisher several times and scoring multiple kills. After securing a quad kill 16 minutes in, mYinsanity summoned their third Punisher, which assisted in the core push that ended Game 2. Final stats: mYinsanity Lv20, 13 kills vs. MVP Black Lv18, 6 kills
Game 3 saw MVP Black dominating the altar phases, leading to the continuous bombardment of mYinsanity’s core. After exterminating all mYinsanity heroes 13 minutes in, MVP Black grabbed their last altar to claim victory. Final stats: MVP Black Lv17, 15 kills vs. mYinsanity Lv16, 5 kills
In Game 4, MVP Black monopolized the Immortal phases, which proved costly to mYinsanity. 12 minutes in, MVP Black, with the assistance of an Immortal, pulverized mYinsanity’s last remaining fort, then crushed their core. Final stats: MVP Black Lv16, 12 kills vs. mYinsanity Lv12, 2 kills
Result: MVP Black (3), mYinsanity (1)
MVP Black qualified for the Grand Final round.

SEMIFINAL 2: eStar Gaming vs. Tempest
Game 1 saw Tempest devastating eStar Gaming with 3 consecutive Punishers and plenty of kills. 12 minutes in, Tempest pushed the core, taking down 3 eStar Gaming heroes in the process. It was enough to win the match. Final stats: Tempest Lv17, 20 kills vs. eStar Gaming Lv15, 7 kills
In Game 2, eStar Gaming ruled a majority of the Webweaver phases, helping them flatten 3 Tempest forts within 14 minutes. 18 minutes in, eStar Gaming summoned the Webweavers, then marched into Tempest’s base. After wiping out Tempest, eStar Gaming turned their core to dust. Final stats: eStar Gaming Lv21, 16 kills vs. Tempest Lv19, 4 kills
After razing two forts and killing numerous Tempest heroes, eStar Gaming was leading. 11 minutes into Game 3, however, Tempest wiped out eStar Gaming. Not 2 minutes later, Tempest turned the game around after managing a quad kill. Tempest’s subsequent boss-led core push proved calamitous to eStar Gaming, who suffered another wipeout. Tempest then cursed eStar Gaming, which caused their eventual downfall. Final stats: Tempest Lv21, 18 kills vs. eStar Gaming Lv20, 18 kills
eStar Gaming dominated most of Game 4, slaying many Tempest heroes and seizing multiple altars. Less than 15 minutes in, they had already brought down Tempest’s core to 7 health. Things started looking bad for eStar Gaming after they lost a clash. Tempest captured succeeding altars until, around 19 minutes, both teams had reduced each other’s core to 5 health. After achieving a quad kill, Tempest grabbed the last altar to claim victory. Final stats: Tempest Lv 23, 17 kills vs. eStar Gaming Lv22, 18 kills
Result: Tempest (3), eStar Gaming (1)
Tempest qualified for the Grand Final round.

GRAND FINAL: MVP Black vs. Tempest
The Final round was a best-of-five single elimination playoff.
For a majority of Game 1, the teams were neck and neck. Tempest gained a small lead 15 minutes in after winning a clash for the Immortals. An Immortal-led core push ultimately secured Tempest their victory. Final Stats: Tempest Lv17, 7 kills vs. MVP Black Lv15, 6 kills
Numerous kills and 4 successful Punisher phases kept Tempest in the lead. 16 minutes in, MVP Black finally caught up, partly thanks to a triple kill. 5 minutes later, MVP Black massacred 3 Tempest heroes. MVP Black’s subsequent core push won them the match. Final Stats: MVP Black Lv22, 14 kills vs. Tempest Lv21, 13 kills
Partly thanks to their excellent Tracer, MVP Black exerted heavy pressure on Tempest throughout Game 3. MVP Black cursed Tempest twice; making it hard for Tempest to keep up. 22 minutes in, MVP Black wiped out Tempest, captured a boss, then attacked the core. They wiped out Tempest once more just before securing victory. Final Stats: MVP Black Lv23, 24 kills vs. Tempest Lv21, 9 kills
In Game 4, MVP Black had a huge lead over Tempest after scoring several near-wipeouts and dominating the Dragon Knight phases. After a failed core push with their third Dragon Knight, however, MVP Black lost 3 heroes. Tempest managed several more kills, helping them catch up to MVP Black. Tempest then seized the Dragon Knight, but MVP Black’s excellent defense thwarted their attempt to push the core. 24 minutes into the game, Tempest reversed their fortunes after annihilating MVP Black, allowing them to obliterate a defenseless core. Final Stats: Tempest Lv23, 12 kills vs. MVP Black Lv23, 12 kills
In Game 5, Tempest snatched the lead from MVP Black after killing numerous heroes during a clash for an altar. Winning several more clashes allowed them to whittle down MVP Black’s core. 17 minutes into the game, Tempest scored a quad kill, giving them free rein to capture all of MVP Black’s keeps, and a boss. This in turn allowed Tempest to bombard MVP Black’s core until it was nothing but rubble. Final Stats: Tempest Lv21, 13 kills vs. MVP Black Lv18, 9 kills
Result: Tempest (3), MVP Black (2)

Our Summer Global Champion!
As the ultimate winner of the Summer Season, Tempest took the championship away from MVP Black to become our “Heroes of the Storm” Summer Global Champion! In addition to the bragging rights, Tempest also took home their $150,000 prize. Runner-up MVP Black went away with $75,000.
South Korea once more demonstrated their dominance at the tournament. MVP Black was as savage and coldly calculating as always, but ultimately, it was Tempest who did the unthinkable by ending the reign of the seemingly untouchable HotS giant. It’s even more impressive when you take into consideration that Tempest – currently consisting of Ju Dam Park (Dami), Kyung Deok Kim (duckdeok), Dae Hyung Lee (Hongcono), Jae Hun Jin (Lockdown), and team captain Gyeong Hwan Jin (Hide) – is a relatively new team founded just this March, 2016.
Though they failed to qualify for the Grand Final, Europe’s mYinsanity and China’s eStar Gaming proved themselves worthy competitors. Not counting their losses to Tempest and MVP Black, both teams won each of their Summer Championship matches.
The end of Summer doesn’t spell the end of the action; the Fall Season is just around the corner. As always, the event will culminate in a battle between the world’s top 12 teams. This time, however, the road will take them to BlizzCon, where they will fight for a whopping $1,000,000 prize pool.
While we’re waiting for the start of the Fall Season, Blizzard will be making all “Heroes of the Storm” characters available for free play this June 24 to 27. This will be a great opportunity for those who are new to the game to get to know the heroes, and maybe find their favorites. Who knows, maybe today’s noobs could be tomorrow’s champions! — TJD, GMA News
