Eleksyon 2019: Check your candidate's views using the Stand on Issues tool on GMA News Online

With only days before the May 13 mid-term elections, GMA News Online has come up with a tool to help voters make their choices for senators.

The Stand on Issues app on the Eleksyon 2019 website on GMA News Online allows users to get a feel for how their preferred incoming Senate will stand on legislative issues, depending on the views of the incumbent senators and the senatorial candidates they select.

Users must select 12 senatorial candidates who will be added to the 12 sitting senators in order to form a hypothetical Senate.

The app will then show the Senate composition created by the user, along with a list of 11 key issues:

1. Federalism
2. Removing term limits for lawmakers
3. Divorce
4. Same-sex marriage
5. Death penalty
6. Lowering minimum age of criminal responsibility
7. Ban on political dynasty
8. Ending contractualization
9. Train 2 (Trabaho Bill)
10. Joint Exploration with China in the West Philippine Sea
11. Imposing a mining ban

They can click on an issue to check the stand of their candidates as well as the incumbents based on their answers to a GMA News Research survey or previously documented position.

The app will show both their stand as individuals and as a group. The individual senators will be highlighted in blue for a "yes" stand, red for a "no" stand, and gray for "others." Their answers are then aggregated in a pie chart.

Users can also click on the "See Summary" button to check the list of issues favored and opposed by the created senate.

Afterwards, voters can generate their own sample ballots for election day with the My Kodigo app.

Viewers can also check the latest stories and video on candidates and campaigns on the Eleksyon 2019 website, voting guides, profiles of each senatorial candidate, video and reports from Debate 2019, and demographic data on the electorate for the upcoming polls. —JST, GMA News
