2 arrested for allegedly stealing cash from virtual wallet

A Senior Citizen lost up to P43,000 he saved in a virtual wallet to thieves, according to Emil Sumangil's report on Saksi on Friday.

A CCTV footage showed the victim, who was not identified in the report, in a conversation with the suspect who at that time was transferring money using a cellphone.

After his transaction, the suspect borrowed the victim's cellphone saying he will just get the reference number. The suspect left and after a few hours, the victim received at least six text alerts on his phone.

This is the only time the victim realized that he lost P43,000 from his virtual wallet.

The suspects were immediately arrested by personnel from MPD Station 4.

The suspects were identified as Ivan Ogayon, who said he was a call center agent, and his cohort, Chester John Jose.

Both are facing charges in relation to the violation of Republic Act No. 8484 or the Access Devices Regulation law. They both declined to issue a statement.

The PNP are conducting a follow up operation to retrieve the stolen money and to arrest the other suspects involved in the case.

The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group advised the public not to divulge their password and cellphone number. -- BAP, GMA News
