PAGASA: Low Pressure Area may cause floods, landslides in Visayas, Mindanao

Flash floods and landslides may threaten parts of Visayas and Mindanao as a potential cyclone, a Low Pressure Area (LPA), moved near Hinatuan in Surigao before noon Saturday, state weather forecasters said.

PAGASA, in its 11:00 a.m. advisory, said the LPA was estimated at 480 kilomters east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 10 a.m.

"This weather system are expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Visayas, and regions of Northern Mindanao and Caraga which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said.

"Residents are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures," it added.

PAGASA forecaster Meno Mendoza earlier said the LPA may intensify into a cyclone in two to three days.

Once it becomes a cyclone, the weather system will be locally codenamed Nando.

The Department of Transportation and Communications earlier said two flights between Manila and Butuan City had been canceled due to bad weather. - VVP, GMA News
