PAGASA: LPA off Dinagat now Tropical Depression Nando

A low-pressure area east of the Dinagat Island intensified into a cyclone before noon Sunday and was codenamed Tropical Depression Nando.

PAGASA said Nando was estimated at 290 km east of Borongan City as of 10 a.m., and packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center.

It said nando was moving north-northwest at 13 kph and is expected to be 270 km east of Virac, Catanduanes Monday morning.

By Tuesday morning it is expected to be 340 km east of Casiguran, Aurora. By Wednesday morning it is expected to be 310 km northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

A report by radio dzBB's Divine Caraecle quoted PAGASA forecaster Elson Dianela as saying their models show Nando is not likely to make landfall over the Philippines.

Dianela also said Nando is not likely to directly affect Metro Manila.

PAGASA said that as of Sunday noon, no public storm warning signals were raised, though Nando may bring rainfall of 5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within its 300-km diameter. — LBG, GMA News
