LPA now tropical depression Agaton

What used to be a low pressure area (LPA) southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar has developed into a tropical depression (TD) locally named “Agaton”, according to PAGASA's weather bulletin issued 10:30 AM, Friday.

As per PAGASA's classification of tropical cyclones, a tropical depression has a maximum wind speed of up to 63 kph. Although it has a definite surface circulation, its winds are weaker than a tropical storm's or a typhoon's.

Agaton was located 260 km southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar and has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center. It is forecast to move southwest at 5 kph.

The tropical depression will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over eastern and central Visayas, PAGASA said. It is also bound to bring moderate to heavy rain (5-15mm/h) within its 300-kilometer diameter.

According to PAGASA, the tropical depression might be 40 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning, 13 km northeast of Davao City by Sunday morning, and be 45 km northeast of General Santos City by Monday morning.

A public storm warning signal no. 1 was issued in Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Compostella Valley.
