PAGASA: Henry could bring flash floods, landslides to Mimaropa, Bicol, Visayas

Possible flash floods and landslides threaten parts of southern Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours due to Typhoon Henry (Matmo), state weather agency PAGASA said Sunday afternoon.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Henry was estimated at 500 km east of Legazpi City as of 4 p.m.

Henry packed maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph, and is forecast to move northwest at 15 kph.

"Mimaropa, Bicol region and Visayas will be cloudy with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said.

It added Calabarzon will have "cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms."

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be "partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," it added.

Also, moderate to strong winds from the north to northeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over Visayas and Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
