Typhoon Halong enters PAR, is locally codenamed jose

Typhoon Halong entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 7 p.m. Saturday and was locally codenamed Jose, but state weather agency PAGASA said it will not yet directly affect the country.

PAGASA said that as of 7 p.m., Jose was estimated at 1,250 km east of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph.

Typhoon Jose is projected to move west-northwest at 11 kph and may be 1,060 km east of Casiguran, Aurora by Sunday afternoon.

By Monday afternoon, it is expected to be 940 km east of Tuguegarao City, and 810 km east of Basco, Batanes Tuesday afternoon.

PAGASA said Jose will bring 10 to 25 mm per hour (heavy to intense) rainfall within its 650-km diameter, but is not likely to directly affect any part of the country at this time.

In the meantime, it said the southwest monsoon will bring occasional rain over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Ilocos region, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
