Hailstorm hits Compostela Valley

Bits of ice—some reportedly as large as marbles—fell from the sky amid heavy rain over Monkayo town in Compostela Valley province last Tuesday afternoon.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council managed to take videos and photos of the small ice particles, GMA Northern Mindanao reported.

"Bumuhos ang mga ice na singlaki ng jolen," a resident said.

Another said they thought small rocks were falling, and later saw ice scattered on the street.

While there was no major damage caused by the hailstorm, the bits of ice damaged the roof of the local Bureau of Fire Protection office and caused some trees to fall.

PAGASA said the ice pellets from the hailstorm measured two to eight inches in diameter. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
