Typhoon Neneng exits PAR; gale warnings up over north Luzon

Typhoon Neneng (international name Phanfone) exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 2 a.m. Saturday, and headed for southern Japan, weather service PAGASA said.

Neneng was 1,240 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes at 4 a.m., moving northwest at 20 kph.

The typhoon had 175 kph winds near the center, which can gust up to 210 kph.

Meanwhile, the inter-tropical convergence zone would bring rain to the Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Palawan on Satruday.

Rain showers and thunderstorms are also expected over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Also, PAGASA was tracking a new cyclone presently over the Pacific Ocean. But this, too, was expected to follow Neneng's path and will merely graze the PAR. — Joel Locsin/DVM, GMA News
