Egay makes landfall over Palanan, Isabela; Signal 2 up over 6 areas


Severe Tropical Storm Egay made landfall over Palanan, Isabela 10 p.m. Saturday, as six areas were placed under Public Storm Warning Signal Number  2, weather service PAGASA said in a Saturday night bulletin.

Egay had maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center, with gusts of up to 120 kph. Estimated rainfall within the storm's 400 km diameter was from moderate to heavy.

The storm was was projected to exit the Luzon landmass over Cagayan Sunday morning

Meanwhile, Signal No. 2 was up over:

  • Kalinga,
  • Apayao,
  • Isabela,
  • Quirino,
  • northern Aurora, and
  • Cagayan including the Babuyan and Calayan Islands.

PAGASA warned that storm surges and sea surface waves of up to 2 meters were  possible over the eastern coast of Isabela and Cagayan.
 
Signal No. 1 was also up over:

  • the rest of Aurora,
  • Nueva Ecija,
  • Nueva Vizcaya,
  • Ifugao,
  • Benguet,
  • Mt. Province,
  • Ilocos Sur,
  • Abra,
  • Ilocos Norte, and
  • Batanes Islands.
 
Residents in mountainous and low lying areas under either Signal No. 1 or 2,  as well as residents of  Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Mimaropa and Calabarzon, were warned against possible flash floods and landslides.

Fisherfolk and small sea craft were also warned against sailing over the seaboards of southern Luzon and the Visayas, and over the northern seaboard of Mindanao.

Egay was moving west-northwest at 11 kph, and was projected to be:

  • 115 kms north of Aparri, Cagayan Sunday evening;
  • 60 kms north of Basco, Batanes Monday evening;
  • 400 kms north-northeast of Basco, Batanes Tuesday evening;
  • and outside the Philippine area of responsibility Wednesday evening.
