PAGASA: Tropical storm slows down, will be named ‘Caloy’ once it enters PAR

Tropical Storm Jelawat, which is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), has slightly slowed down while maintaining strength, according to PAGASA on Monday.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA spotted the center of Jelawat at 1,210 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said Jelawat is expected to move toward the northwest track at 20 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA also said Jelawat still has no direct effect in the country.

But according to the state weather bureau, Jelawat is most likely to enter PAR between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. It will be named Caloy once it is already inside PAR.

PAGASA said the weather disturbance is less likely to make landfall over the country due to its recurving track. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
